Need For Board MemberWe currently have a vacancy on our Board of Directors. Tiger King fills the President’s position while Brian Stern performs both the roles of Secretary and Treasurer. Our Articles and By Laws call for a three member board. Although these documents allow for a minimum of two board members, this is not an ideal situation.Board duties include overseeing the association’s landscaper, overseeing the association’s bookkeeper, ensuring the fence along Snohomish Cascade Drive is well maintained, enforcing the CC&R’s and attending regular board meetings. If you would like to volunteer to be on the board, please contact Tiger or Brian. Dues IncreasedFor the first time in 10 years, the Board of Directors has raised the association dues to $235. The Board is forced to raise dues because of higher utility (water and electricity) costs as well as a possible replacement of the fence along Snohomish Cascade Drive. The CC&R’s allow the Board to raise dues as long as the increase is not over 20% of the last year’s dues (CC&R’s Article VII, paragraph 7.4. Until this year, the dues have been at $196 per year since 1995. Waterfall UpdateYou may have noticed that the waterfall is now operating. The rocks that were dislodged due to vandalism in 2005 have been replaced and secured.Winter Landscaping UpdateSeveral projects have been accomplished over the winter including:
PABCO No Longer AllowedThe Board will no longer allow PABCO composite materials for roofing. The CC&R’s allow cedar or tile. In addition, the board allows the following approved composite materials:
Driving In The FallsIn the fall of 2005, the Snohomish County Public Works Department conducted a traffic survey of Cascade Dr SE and Snohomish Cascade Dr SE within The Falls. Traffic engineers use traffic surveys to determine the volume and speed of traffic on streets. For Snohomish Cascade Dr, the survey found that the “benchmark” speed was between 32 and 33 mph. The benchmark speed means 85% of the traffic travels at that speed or slower. The speed limit is 25mph. Between 2,235 and 2,900 trips per day on Snohomish Cascade Dr. For Cascade Dr SE, the survey found a benchmark speed of 28.5 and 29mph with 1,251 trips per day. For a more complete explanation of the survey go to the Community Forum, Neighborhood Issues on the association’s web site at www.the-falls.org.
