Waterfall Update

The waterfall repair has finally begun. The electrical connections to the sump pumps have been sealed to keep out water. A visible alarm (a flashing light) will be installed to go off in the event that the electrical breaker trips. The pump/motor assembly will be inspected and repaired or replaced as necessary. Finally, the waterfall will be pressure washed and the basin cleaned out. The board hopes that this work will be completed and the waterfall will be running again in about 3 weeks.

CC&R Enforcement

The board of directors is looking into ways that it can toughen its enforcement of the CC&R’s. It is exploring how it can legally impose fines on members who repeatedly ignore our covenants. It is also looking into how it can resurrect the Architectural Control Committee. The CC&R’s automatically abolished the ACC one year after the last house was built and sold to its initial occupants.

Roofing Materials

Last summer we published guidelines on roofing materials for our members who are finding it necessary to replace their roofs and who do not want to use cedar shake roofing whose quality has steadily declined over the past few years. We are republishing the guidelines for you.

GAF Materials Corporation

  • Grand Sequoia Series, in colors Cedar Blend, Mesa Brown Blend, Slate Blend or Weathered Wood Blend
  • Grand Canyon Series, in colors Sedona Sunset, Stone Wood or Mission Brown
For more information and to see the materials go to: http://www.gaf.com; Then: Click on Residential Homeowner; Then: Click on Roof Selector.
PABCO
  • Pabco Premier 30, 40, or 50 in : Mocha or Prairie Wood
  • Pabco Premier Advantage in: Beechwood or Rustic Brown
For more information on Pabco roofing go to: http://pabcoroofing.paccoast.com/default.asp?pageID=147

These materials present a layered texture, and blended natural colors found in Cedar shake or natural slate roofing materials. The installed appearance has been deemed acceptable and pleasant by many high end communities in our area.

Any other composite/non-shake material must be presented to the board of directors prior to purchase or installation, and must be approved in writing by the board.

If you have any questions please contact the board of directors.

Fireworks and July 4

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal wants to remind all of us that in unincorporated Snohomish County (that includes The Falls) fireworks may only be fired off on July 4 from 9am to midnight. Shooting fireworks at any other time is illegal.

The Fire Marshal also encourages using extreme caution when using fireworks:
  • Consider attending a Public Display, letting the professionals do the work!
  • Always read and follow label directions
  • Have an adult present
  • Always have water handy. A garden hose and a bucket
  • Light only ONE firework at a time
  • Never re-light a "dud"
  • Do not give fireworks to small children
  • Never throw or point fireworks at other people
  • Stay away from illegal explosives. Illegal fireworks cause 90% of all fireworks related fires in the State of Washington. They are also the major contributing factor to fireworks related property loss and bodily injuries. Illegal fireworks can include certain firecrackers, bottle rockets, and sky rockets. Also, many of the so called fireworks sold at Native American fireworks stands are actually considered ILLEGAL explosive devices outside of the reservations where they are sold.

Block Watch

The latest issue of the Sheriff’s Office crime prevention newsletter covers the following topics:

Please Watch Your Speed

Please observe the speed limit (25 mph) in The Falls. Parents, please remind your teenage drivers to drive carefully and within the speed limit. They do not want to be involved in an accident that damages their wheels or someone else.

County Noise Ordinance

We want to remind everyone to please be courteous to your neighbors and observe the county’s noise ordinance. Please do not operate the following during “nighttime” hours (10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on weekdays, and between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on weekends):
  • Powered saw, drill, sander, grinder, blower, fan, garden tool or similar device
  • Operate or idle, for more than ten minutes at a time, a stationary truck weighing in excess of 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight
  • Loud musical instruments, amplifiers, or other sounds originating from a band session, automobile sound system or social gathering
For more information about the county noise ordinance, look up Chapter 10.01, Noise Control on the county’s web site at http://www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/ and select “County Code”.
